Background:
Superbad was released on August 17, 2007.
On a rough budget of $17.5-20 million, it would go on to gross $170.8 million worldwide placing #33 for that year.
It was met with high critical reviews at the time often comparing it favorably to many of the films it drew inspiration from including Fast Times at Ridgemont High, American Graffiti, National Lampoon's Animal House, Dazed and Confused, and Revenge of the Nerds.
Retrospectively since its release, it has garnered acclaim as one of the best comedies of the 2000s and as one of the best high school movies of all time. It has been hailed as one of the defining movies of the Millennial generation.
It is possible to still get t-shirts or posters with the Hawaiian ID for McLovin since the release of the film.
The film was also listed as #487 on Empire's 500 Greatest films of all time.
Superbad currently holds an 88% among critics on RT, a 76 score on Metacritic, and a 3.9/5 on Letterboxd.
Plot Summary: So there's this flick called 'Superbad', right? Imagine two high school seniors, Seth and Evan. They’re like best buds, and of course, they're total outcasts. Anyway, they're on this mission to have the most epic night ever before they head off to college. The ultimate goal? Get booze and get the girls of their dreams.
But let me tell you, everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Picture a wild odyssey that involves a fake ID, cops who are a bit too eager to party, and one awkward encounter after another. It’s hilarious, it’s awkward, and it’s got that coming-of-age vibe that makes it an absolute riot. Oh, and it’s also got a bit of heart—because, you know, it’s not just about the party. It’s about friendship, growing up, and all that other mushy stuff.
